Flexible, programmable PLC transceiver easily functions in noisy smart-grid apps

has developed a multi-standard
OFDM-based power line communications (PLC) transceiver that can operate in a
wide range of noise-prone smart-grid environments, while addressing a multitude
of established and evolving standards and proprietary modes. Dubbed SM2400, Semitech's latest device is an OFDM-based N-PLC modem that combines a PHY, MAC, and mixed-signal components. It features a programmable architecture by using two 32-bit cores configured specifically for N-PLC modulations and protocols. It supports all common OFDM-based standards, including IEEE 1901.2, G3-PLC, and PRIME.
The SM2400 comes with FW versions implementing 1901.2 compliant PHY and MAC layers and 6LoWPAN data link layer as well as PRIME, G3-PLC, FSK/BPSK Lon compliant mode and other special modes tailored for smart-metering and smart-grid applications. The SM2400 is capable of achieving data rates of up to 500Kbps over 500KHz frequency band.
Featuring
128-bit AES encryption core and Unique ID the SM2400 provides means for secure
communication. The SM2400 has
an integrated analog front end featuring ADC, DAC, gain control, and two operational
amplifiers.
The SM2400 can run simple applications on its DLL core. However, in most applications it communicates with a master MCU via SPI or UART.
Applications for the SM2400 include advanced metering infrastructure and automated meter reading, street lighting control, smart energy home area networking, home automation, building automation, and other deployments requiring communications over an existing power line.

PLC is the short name for a Programmable Logic Controller. Why steal a most common acronym and stick it onto something else? How about CoPL? Communications over Power Line? No confusion there. It doesn't have quite the catchy ring to it, but it would be more correct.
