Get your sound in the round—or in the square

North American Capacitor has added two models to its Sonalert line. These round piezo indicators have built-in drive that produces loud output at low applied-dc voltage. The MAS806, for 5 to 14V operation, has a sound-pressure level of 95 dB ±5 dB at 2 feet. The MAS803 has the same sound-pressure-level output at 3V and operates at 3 to 6V. Both through-hole units produce 2800 6500-Hz signals. The MAS803 costs $4.50 (100), and the MAS806 costs $4.92.

If you prefer a square surface-mount device, Murata's PKLCS1212E4001-R1 piezo sounder measures 12×12×3 mm and delivers a 75-dB sound measured at 10 cm. A 3V p-p, 4-kHz square wave drives the sounder, which costs 98 cents in small quantities.
