By Warren Webb -- EDN, 12/6/2001
Supporting mission-critical applications in the commercial-off-the-shelf military and severe-environment market, Vista Controls has introduced a conduction-cooled single-board computer for the VMEbus (Picture). Users may select from the 400-MHz Motorola 7400/7410 with AltiVec technology or the MPC 755 PowerPC processors. Memory features include as much as 256 Mbytes of SDRAM, 64 Mbytes of 64-bit-wide flash memory, and 1 to 2 Mbytes of L2 cache.
For maximum I/O flexibility, the PPC G4 features two onboard 1553B channels and two PMC-mezzanine locations. In addition, the device includes two RS-232 ports, two RS-422 ports, an 8-bit parallel I/O port, and a 10/100 BaseT Ethernet interface. VME64x-compatible DIN connectors on P1 and P2 and a P0 connector enable all I/O to be transferred through the backplane. With an operating temperature range of –40 to +75°C, the PPC G4 complies with the ANSI/IEEE 1101.2-1992 specification for conduction-cooled VMEbus boards. Prices start at $9550.
