iSCSI gets Microsoft support

By Nicholas Cravotta -- EDN, 5/1/2003

Microsoft has announced that it will next month begin to provide iSCSI support for Windows client and server environments. The iSCSI software driver will be available as a free Web download for Windows 2000 client and server, Windows XP client, and the forthcoming Windows Server 2003. The driver will include support for data encryption, including IPsec (Internet Protocol Security) and Internet Storage Name Service for both server and client management via Windows Management Instrumentation. It will also attempt to aggregate the hardware initiators into a common framework. The beta 2 version is available at www.betaplace.com; you use the guest ID "iSCSI." When Microsoft releases information on the iSCSI Designed for Windows Logo Program, you can access it at www.microsoft.com/winlogo/benefits/default.mspx.
