Microstepping motor-drive IC puts you on LIN bus

By Bill Schweber -- EDN, 5/29/2003

The AMIS-30621 from AMI Semiconductor integrates a bus connection, positioning electronics, and a motor driver in a single SOP20 package (Picture). The device gives you LIN (local-interconnect-network)-bus connectivity at the physical and data-link layers for small-scale automotive and industrial applications.

Targeting single- and multiple-axis applications driven from a LIN master, such as headlight swiveling and leveling, cruise control, and robotic and positioning needs, the $2.20 (10,000) IC joins the AMIS-30622, which offers a serial-bus interface. The IC supports as many as 128 node addresses, driving the motor with 20-kHz PWM control and maximum current of 800 mA. It operates from a 8 to 29V supply and includes an integral current sensor.
