Devices provide megabits of multiplexed memory
By Nicholas Cravotta -- EDN, 7/10/2003
IDT has introduced a family of multiqueue flow-control devices with DDR and SDR capabilities for applications requiring quality of service, data differentiation, and parallel buffering of multiple data streams (Picture). The devices support four queues running either SDR or DDR and manage both sequential and random access of memory. Bus-matching features allow you to configure read and write buses independently of each other by bus width, speed, data rate, or voltage. You can use the devices to act as buffers and to segregate and prioritize data at line rate through multiple queues.
The multiqueue DDR/SDR flow-control devices run at 3.3V and range in density from 1 Mbit to 5 Mbits, and you can configure them to 10, 20, and 40 times the bus width. The devices are currently available for sampling in a 324-pin plastic BGA, and prices range from $42.50 to $58.50 (10,000). Versions running at 2.5V range in density from 512 kbits to 2 Mbits, and you can configure them to nine, 18, or 36 times the bus width with as many as 32 user-definable queues. Prices for the 2.5V devices ranges from $32.13 to $64.75 (10,000).
