Translator takes logic to a new level

By Bill Schweber -- EDN, 6/26/2003

One headache engineers don't need is to find out that some key ICs have incompatible logic levels. Don't take an aspirin; instead, try the single-bit, low-noise, buffered FXLP34interface from Fairchild Semiconductor (Picture). This IC operates from two supply rails and lets you translate logic levels between any values of logic state from 0.9 to 3.6V. Propagation delay is 4 to 7 nsec, depending on the voltage levels you use. Available in SC70 and chip-scale packaging, the device costs 20 cents (1 million).
