NPU raises bar to 40 Gbps
By Nicholas Cravotta -- EDN, 6/26/2003
Xelerated based its new X10q network processors on a 0.13-micron process technology. The devices employ a deterministic data-flow architecture running at wire speeds as high as 40 Gbps. A synchronous pipeline comprises 200 data-flow processors and 10 I/O processors; each processor executes a single instruction in the pipeline.
Four SPI4.2 interfaces support either 1- or 10-Gbps Ethernet signals for the X10q-e device and both Ethernet and SONET for the X10q-m. The X10q-e can process 60 million packets/sec and consumes 6.5W. The X10q-m can process 90 million packets/sec and consumes 10W. Prices are $490 (10,000) for the X10q-e and $690 for the X10q-m. The X10 family now supports standard DRAM technology to reduce the cost of large tables. A reference design running four 10-Gbps signals is also available.
