Structured-array family touts 2.6 million gates
By Gabe Moretti -- EDN, 8/21/2003
AMI Semiconductor has added a new member to its XPressArray structured-array product family, which has for some time been in volume production at 180 nm. The new XPA-HD offers 40% more density than previous devices. The device provides as many as 2.6 million programmable-logic gates, 200,000 internal registers, and 1.4 Mbits of embedded RAM that you can configure as single- or dual-port memory.
The architecture allows asymmetrical port widths. Flexible I/O technology includes fully configurable core and I/O-power supply pads and support for a range of industry-standard I/O protocols. The clock-management circuitry features as many as 12 digital delay-locked loops and four phase-locked loops. The company estimates that nonrecurring-engineering charges for a typical XpressArray product will range from $80,000 to $200,000. Overall unit costs are as low as $6 (50,000/year).
