RF connector shrinks to match hot applications

Connectors are relatively large, passive components in many designs, but the MMCX microminiature RF connector from Tyco Electronics is 35% smaller than the company’s MCX series (Picture). Designed for dc to 6-GHz operation, the 50Ω connector has a return loss of –20.8 dB in the full range and provides 500 mating cycles. You can get this connector in surface-mount, pc-board edge-mount, straight, and right-angle configurations. A mated pair sells for $2.25 (5000).
