Learn and lunch with leaders
By Maury Wright -- EDN, 9/25/2003
Engineers know that design and development work is equal part science and art. And this exciting mix is the reason most engineers became engineers. You relish the challenge of boosting performance without impacting cost. Or you enjoy shaving 100 mW in power consumption. Perhaps you’ve even created a new architecture to overcome roadblocks that stand in the path of the perfect product. Indeed, you know that you must innovate to succeed.
EDN wants to be your partner, helping you to better do your job. We strive to provide you with the most useful, timely, and relevant information in the magazine, on the Web, and in newsletters. And we cherish innovation—so much so that we have a formal program that recognizes leading innovators every year.
Now, we want to offer you even more: a chance to learn from the leaders. In conjunction with the Microprocessor Forum on Oct 15 in San Jose, we’re hosting our first “Learning from the Leaders” luncheon. Come enjoy lunch and hear keynote speaker TJ Rodgers, chief executive officer of Cypress, along with a series of quick but hard-hitting presentations from recent winners of EDN Innovation awards. You won’t hear product pitches. Instead, you will hear from companies such as Analog Devices, ARM, Tensilica, and Texas Instruments on how they foster innovation in their engineering efforts.
To top off the learning opportunity, legendary Rodgers will discuss his experience as an entrepreneur building an independent semiconductor company. He’ll describe the design-and-development approach that led to the many innovations at Cypress over the years. Moreover, the aggressive executive will talk about the path back to success for the tech industry and his experience shepherding a company that is a vital supplier to the hard-hit communications industry. Under Rodgers’ tutelage, Cypress has won numerous EDN Innovation awards, most recently including for the company’s pSOC microcontroller and wireless-USB chip.
Attendance at the Learning from the Leaders event is free, but seating is limited, and a response is required. Register at www.instat.com/conf03/instat/innovationlunch.htm.
