Debugger/programmer speeds HCS12-software development
By Warren Webb -- EDN, 10/2/2003
SofTec Microsystems recently unveiled its inDART-HCS12 in-circuit debugger/programmer-development tools for the Motorola HCS12 flash microcontroller family (Picture). The inDART-HCS12 takes advantage of Metrowerks CodeWarrior HCS12 IDE (integrated development environment and the BDM (background-debug-module) feature to download, in-circuit-emulate, and debug user code. The inDART-HCS12 offers real-time debugging without probes or bound-out chips, a built-in flash programmer supporting 1.8 to 5.5V devices, and a USB connection to the PC. The Metrowerks CodeWarrior IDE for the HCS12 comes complete with an editor, an assembler, a C compiler, and a debugger. The emulator/programmer unit alone costs $449 and costs $499 with a device-specific evaluation board that features a BDM connector, various I/O-demo controls, and a prototyping area.
