Battery keeps its cool despite heat

By Bill Schweber -- EDN, 10/2/2003

As applications for remote sensing increase, so do the real-world stresses on components. Maxell's CR2450 series of coin cells target use in the pressure-sensing tags that will monitor tire pressure under the new federal mandate, but you can use them elsewhere, as well (Picture). The lithium-manganese-dioxide batteries use a new gasket material, a new crimping technique, and an improved content to operate from –40 to +120°C for the HR model and to +150°C for the EX version. The cells, 24.5 mm in diameter and 5 mm high, produce 3V output with 525-mAhr capacity and cost approximately $1 each.
