Arapahoe is ready

By Nicholas Cravotta -- EDN, 11/13/2003

The Arapahoe Working Group of the PCI-SIG (Special Interest Group) has completed development of its Advanced Switching specification, a scalable switched-interconnect and data-fabric architecture for intercon-necting system boards and components. The group based the spec on the PCI-Express architecture, which works at the transaction layer to provide flexibility for adding functions and which defines specialized features, such as protocol agnosticism, quality of service, peer-to-peer and multicast communications, enhanced high-availability, and congestion and system management.

The group has also formed the ASI-SIG (Advanced Switching Interconnect SIG), to which it will this year transfer the specification. Board members of the new SIG include Agere, Alcatel, Intel, Siemens, Vitesse, and Xilinx.
