IC-package and pc-board design flow now works with Linux

By Gabe Moretti -- EDN, 11/13/2003

Cadence Design Systems has ported its advanced-IC-package- and pc-board-design flow to IBM’s Linux as part of its Version 15.1 IC packaging and pc-board-design-environment release. The Cadence PCB Design Studio, part of the 15.1 release, is a cost-conscious and scalable design suite targeted at the price/performance needs of design teams. Running this design suite on Linux enables Cadence customers to achieve greater price/performance from their EDA environments.

Cadence will also port its PCB Design Expert line to Linux for design teams designing complex, high-speed, constraint-driven pc-board products. Cadence will continue to support the versions of its products that run under Windows XP Pro, Windows 2000, HP-UX, IBM AIX, and Sun Solaris. A one-year license for PCB Design Studio is available for $3600, and a one-year license for PCB Design Expert has a list price of $25,200. Customers with current maintenance agreements will be able to move to the 15.1 release for free.
