Single-chip demodulator Targets digital terrestrial set-top boxes

-- EDN, 1/6/2000

Designers of digital set-top boxes for terrestrial TV can reduce component count with LSI Logic's L64781 demodulator. The chip includes forward error correction, a 10-bit A/D converter, and orthogonal frequency-division-multiplexing blocks. LSI claims improved performance in handling co-channel interference. In certain modes, the demodulator receives a perfect digital picture when there is a strong analogue signal on the same frequency. The chip supports all digital-video-broadcast-terrestrial modes in use in Europe, and LSI offers a developer's kit. Price is less than $17 in high volume.
