Here comes quad

-- EDN, 2/17/2000

SRAM manufacturers Cypress Semiconductor, Integrated Device Technology, and Micron didn't quite make the end-of-1999 sampling schedule they touted when they launched the quad-data-rate (QDR) SRAM architecture a few months ago (see "SRAMs do a double double take," EDN, Aug 19, 1999, pg 22). However, design work is complete on the initial 9-Mbit device with an 18-bit data bus, manufacturing is in process, and the companies hope to have samples ready for inspection by the end of this quarter.

All three vendors' migration paths extend to the 128-Mbit density, in a common 13×15-mm, fine-pitch BGA package. You can find more information at the consortium's Web site, www.qdrsram.com.
