PXI system claims industry's highest capacity

-- EDN, 11/23/2000

A PXI-standard rack-mount/benchtop chassis from Tracewell Systems lays claim to the highest capacity in the industry (Picture). The 4U-tall S32 system accommodates as many as 18 PXI boards. The chassis comes with a 600W universal-input power supply with power-factor correction. To provide cooling for this amount of power, the S32 incorporates three 130-cfm, high-pressure fans that use automatic, temperature-feedback speed control for quiet operation. The system offers an 18-slot, PXI-standard backplane and dual bridges to support the latest PCI-standard interface and triggering schemes. The S32 is cross-compatible with CompactPCI, thus allowing easy integration with noninstrumentation boards. The system features a front-loading, 18-slot card cage for 6Ux1600-mm flush-mount cards. It also offers a front-mounted access switch for user control of the system's clock source (remote or onboard, 10-MHz reference). The S32 system costs $3875.
