Sharp, Nanosys Ink Nanotechnology Display Agreement

Sharp Corp. of Osaka, Japan and Palo Alto, Calif.-based nanotechnology provider Nanosys Inc. said today they have entered into a multi-year development agreement to develop display technologies incorporating Nanosys’ proprietary nanotechnology.

Under the terms of the development agreement, Sharp will collaborate and support efforts at both Nanosys and Sharp. Further details were not disclosed.

This is the second major collaboration agreement announced between Nanosys and Sharp over the past 12 months. The first agreement focused on developing a new fuel cell technology for portable electronics.

“We are extremely pleased to be working with Sharp on yet another significant product opportunity for our technology,” said Calvin Chow, CEO of Nanosys, in a statement.

“Sharp is one of the world’s leaders in a wide range of consumer electronics and their ability to recognize and turn new technologies into highly successful products is unparalleled. They are an ideal partner for us,” he added.

Dr. Kenji Ohta, Sharp’s corporate senior executive director and CTO said, “Sharp is committed to staying at the leading edge of display technology. This is why we have chosen Nanosys to help develop next-generation display technologies.”
