Advanced Micro Devices Inc. has inked a five-year patent license agreement with Los Altos, Calif.-based Rambus Inc. that grants AMD a license to Rambus patents used in the design of DDR2, DDR3, FB-DIMM, PCI Express and XDR controllers along with other current and future high-speed memory and logic controller interfaces for $75 million.
The companies said that under terms of the agreement, the licensing may be renewed or extended, although other terms were not revealed.
“The license of our patent portfolio with AMD’s demonstrated innovation in the microprocessor market is highly compelling,” said Harold Hughes, CEO at Rambus, in a statement.
“We are very pleased to start the new year with an agreement that reflects a new approach for pricing our controller licenses and to continue to provide the market with innovative high-speed chip interface technologies,” he concluded.
