Sharp shows 108-inch LCD TV

Sharp Electronics has unveiled this week what it claims is the world's largest LCD TV, the 108-inch Aquos, part of the newest lines of large-screen Aquos HDTVs to come from the company's eighth-generation (8G) fab in Kameyama, Japan.

Sharp is set to exhibit a prototype model of the TV this week at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The 108-inch Full HD 1080p LCD TV features Sharp's advanced super view LCD panel manufactured at Sharp's Kameyama plant. The company has not put a price point on the 108-inch offering, but did say that they would likely ship to stores in mid-2007.

Sharp's Kameyama plant was the first 8G fab to go into production. Meanwhile, the Samsung /Sony joint venture S-LCD has an 8G fab in the works, which is set to be operational this fall. LG Philips LCD had also enumerated plans for an 8G fab, but has since put those plans on hold.
