Avnet inks distribution deal with CAO Group

By Colleen Taylor -- Electronic News, 2/6/2007

LED developer and design/integration company CAO Group has chosen Avnet Electronics Marketing to distribute its Dynasty family of high-brightness LED devices, as well as its entire line of solid state illumination products and system-level solutions. LightSpeed, Avnet's specialized illumination-focused business unit, will support CAO Group's technology throughout North America.

According to CAO, the Dynasty family is focused on the automotive, aerospace, and marine and science industries. The devices combine an array of 16 die, an internal heat sink and a lens into a single hermetically sealed package, the company said. In addition, CAO claims that its Dynasty devices emit light in a continuous 360 degree viewing angle and can be panel mounted.

For its part, Avnet, which last month boasted solid Q2 financial results, said its LightSpeed unit works directly with customers through a national team of dedicated illumination-focused engineers, dubbed "illumineers." Avnet said these engineers have experience in high-brightness LED technology, as well as thermal, drive stage and optics design.

This is not the first collaboration Avnet Electronics Marketing has touted in recent weeks. Last month, the Phoenix, Ariz.-based company released a development kit it created with Analog Devices Inc. (ADI) and Micron Technology Inc. based on ADI's Blackfin processor and Micron's CMOS image sensor.
