Intel introduces quad-core embedded processors

By Robert Cravotta, Technical Editor -- EDN, 4/4/2007

This week at ESC, Intel has announced two new Quad-Core Xeon embedded processors, the E5335 and E5345, which offer extended lifecycle support of five to seven years. The E5335 supports 2.0-GHz operation, and the E5345 supports 2.33-GHz operation. These devices include 8 Mbytes of cache, a 1333-MHz front side bus, 64-bit I/O, and a power dissipation of 80W.

These processors target the intense computing and I/O-intensive workloads within high-end communications and enterprise systems, including rack-mount (1U/2U) and blade servers, NAS (network-attached-storage) and SAN (storage-area-network) systems, and medical imaging equipment. The processors are available now starting at $690.
