Question: I need to staff a construction project in Singapore, and plan to send the management team and hire the labor locally. Are there staffing agencies in Singapore?  What are the tax and benefits issues we should be concerned with?  Are there extended stay lodging options for our management team?  What are the cultural issues I should be aware of?

Expert response from David Dan, president and founder, D Square Transformation Consulting Inc.:

Singapore is a mature working place. What you need to do is work with a local legal or human resource agency to register your company before you start your business operations.

The cultural issue can be very minimal in Singapore, since it is heavily mixed with people from the UK, the US, China, India, and Malaysia. In general, Singapore is a standard global city for business.

Here are some key characteristics of Singapore:

Size: It is a small country and is more like a city, really.

Weather: It has typical tropical weather—it is hot and humid all the year round.

This is a clean and well-regulated country, and used to be the headquarters of Fortune 500 companies in Asia, particularly for financial operations. There are still a lot of expatriates working in Singapore.
