Dirk Meyer has continues to gain more responsibility at AMD. The MPU giant today announced the appointment of Meyer, the company’s president and COO, to the board of directors.
Meyer was promoted to his current role as president and COO in January 2006, when he took some duties off of chairman and CEO Hector Ruiz’s plate. Before the promotion, Ruiz also held the title of president. The two executives now share leadership and management duties at AMD.
“Dirk has been a tremendous asset to the office of the CEO and his appointment strengthens AMD’s board of directors,” Ruiz said in a statement. “Dirk has played an integral role in defining AMD’s vision and strategy, helping make AMD the partner of choice for our customers and positioning the company for long-term growth and profitability.”
Meyer’s election to the board took effect November 1.
Prior to his role as president and COO, Meyer served as president and COO of AMD’s microprocessor solutions sector where he had overall responsibility for AMD’s microprocessor business, including product development, manufacturing, operations and product marketing. Meyer joined AMD in 1995 and led engineering for the AMD Athlon microprocessor. In April 1999, he was promoted to VP of engineering. In 2001, he was named group VP, and in 2002 was named senior VP and an executive officer of AMD.
Preceding his move to AMD, Meyer spent nearly a decade at Digital Equipment Corp., where he was co-architect of the Alpha 21064 and 21264 microprocessors.
