San Jose-based fabless analog/mixed-signal semiconductor developer Monolithic Power Systems (MPS) reported Wednesday that it has filed a patent infringement lawsuit with the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against HsinChu City, Taiwan-based Chip Advanced Technology Inc. (CAT), asserting that CAT has willfully infringed an MPS patent that allows efficient low-voltage, low-current power conversions, such as DC-DC step-down converters.
In MPS’s complaint, the company is seeking unspecified damages and a court-ordered injunction against future infringement by CAT.
Through this lawsuit, MPS said it intends to vigorously protect and enforce its intellectual property.
In other MPS news, last month, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California issued a final judgment that all of the patent claims asserted by O2 Micro International Ltd. against MPS and MPS's customer ASUSTeK Computer are invalid.
