The SOI Industry Consortium has announced its first board of directors, with executives from such companies as Advanced Micro Devices, IBM, and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing included.
The group, formed in October 2007 with the aim of accelerating silicon-on-insulator (SOI) adoption, has further named Horacio Mendez as its executive director. Mendez, most recently the director of new product development at Freescale Semiconductor www.freescale.com where he was responsible for integrating SOI process technology and product design into technologies for the networking and computing microprocessor markets, will manage the daily operations of the SOI Industry Consortium in this new role.
The consortium’s 9 member board consists of: Udo Nothelfer, VP of AMD’s Fab 36; Tom Lantzch, ARM’s PIPD division VP of marketing; Kevin Meyer, Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing’s VP of industry marketing and platform alliances; Dirk Wristers, Freescale Semiconductor’s director of process technology R&D; Mark Ireland, VP of IBM’s Common Platform; André-Jacques Auberton-Hervé, www. Soitec.com Soitec’s CEO and president; Joel Hartmann, STMicroelectronics’ Crolles2 alliance director; Ken Weng, TSMC’s deputy director of SOI design; and Shieh-Wei Sun, UMC’s COO.
Lantzch was also named treasurer, while Auberton-Hervé was named chair, elected by a majority of the charter members prior to the consortium’s official launch last fall.
The consortium said that its membership is open to all companies and institutions throughout the electronics industry. Other companies involved in the group that do not have executives on the board include Cadence Design Systems, NXP, and Semico.
