TSMC, UMC April sales up y/y, q/q

The world’s top two pure-play semiconductor foundries both saw revenues in April rise on a year-over-year as well as sequential basis.

Hsinchu, Taiwan-based Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co [TSMC] reported today its net sales for April on an unconsolidated basis were $916.6 million (28.1 billion New Taiwanese dollars), up 5.8% sequentially over March, and 24.8% higher year-over-year from April 2007.

TSMC’s revenues for the first four months of the year totaled $3.7 billion (113.3 billion NT), an increase of 32% compared to the same period in 2007.

On a consolidated basis, TSMC’s net sales for April were $941.7 million (28.9 billion NT), up 6.4% over March and 25% higher than April 2007. Consolidated revenues for January through April totaled $3.8 billion (116.3 billion NT), an increase of 32.2% compared to the same period in 2007.

At the same time, second-ranked pure-play foundry, Taipei, Taiwan-based United Microelectronics Corp [UMC] reported April revenues of $278 million (8.5 billion NT), up 4.8% over April 2007, and less than 1% higher than $277.3 million (8.5 billion NT) in March.

For the time period of January through April, UMC’s revenues totaled $1.1 billion (32.5 billion NT), 4.4% higher than the same period in 2007.
