The folks at Mentor Graphics certainly have a good sense of humor. The company sent me three boxes of cupcakes with a crow featured on the top of each cake.

If you missed it, last year I took Mentor to task in my blog for among other things relying too heavily on its Calibre flagship product and likened the rest of its product fleet to ski-boats, in comparison to the battleship that is Calibre. Then a few weeks ago when Mentor pre-announced that its earnings for the fourth quarter of 2006 would exceed Wall Street expectations, largely from sales of products other than Calibre, I congratulated the Mentor crew for making me eat crow.

On behalf of EDN’s SJ bureau thanks for the crowcakes.

So now I’ll make a wild and completely baseless prediction that Calibre sales will continue to decline for the next two quarters— Wally, Greg, and Joe I’m willing to eat lobster (cooked, preferably with a side of melted butter) if I’m wrong…
