The constant-current CAT4101 low-dropout driver suits architectural, landscape, automotive, and general LED-lighting products. Driving a long string of LEDs, the linear-based device requires no inductor, reducing noise and component count. You set the LED current using an external resistor that connects to the reset pin. The LED pin operates with 25V voltages, enabling the CAT4101 to drive strings with as many as 10 LEDs and is adjustable to 1A. Features include high-speed, high-resolution PWM (pulse-width-modulation) dimming, instant-on PWM control mode, and thermal-shutdown protection in an overtemperature-fault condition. A lead TO-263-5 package provides improved thermal dissipation. The CAT4101 costs 98 cents (10,000).
