Integrating a one-cell lithium protector and SHA-1 authentication, the single-cell DS2784 stand-alone fuel gauge fits on the side of a prismatic-battery cell. The device combines a precision, analog front end for measuring current and voltage with an embedded fuel-gauge algorithm. The fuel gauge estimates available capacity based on coulomb count, discharge rate, temperature, and cell characteristics. The lithium protector monitors for cell overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent, and short-circuit conditions. Available in a 3×3-mm TDFN package, the DS2784 fuel gauge costs $2.94 (1000).
