Suiting smartphone keypads, gaming controls, and other portable applications, the MAX7359 two-wire-interfaced controller monitors and debounces multiple key-press and -release events on as many as 64 keys. The device generates and stores key codes in a FIFO register for every event, allowing the monitoring of multiple key-switch events. Features include integrated debouncing circuitry, seven open-drain logic outputs configurable for driving LEDs, and a –40 to +85°C operating range. Ensuring low EMI (electromagnetic-interference) operation, the device has statically monitored, rather than dynamically monitored, key inputs. Available in a 3.5×3.5-mm TQFN-24 package, the MAX7359 costs $1.70 (1000).
