ZMDI sensor interface chips and analog ICs

Sep 8 2009 5:42AM | Permalink |Comments (10) |

I was surprised to get a press release from ZMDI, a mixed-signal analog company that I had not used parts from. Being an analog engineer for 20 years I thought I had used everyone’s chips by now. The release was for the ZIOL2401 high-voltage line driver with integrated dc-dc conversion. ZMDI makes capacitive sensor interface chips that can resolve a pF as well as ADCs and RFID and Zigbee chips. I would like to link to several of the chips but unfortunately the ZMDI website uses frames construction so I cannot link to a specific part, only the top-level product page. When you do manage to get to the product page, don’t be like me and think there are only three parts, since there are only three entries on the top-level product page, those are the “new” parts, and can’t you see the little “new” in the upper left? No? Neither could I. The real product lineup is listed in the left hand margin of the page. You can poke around there to see what they make. Oh, and I note with delight that they have a web seminar on our sister publication Design News. Don’t worry about the website, it means the company is run by hardware people and this is just what you want in your analog IC supplier.

Twenty years ago, this company was in the German Democratic Republic designing processors and 1-MBit RAM circuits. Suppose you couldnt get those chips in the USA. They faced tough reconstruction plans in the nineties after the reunion of Germany, are stock owned since end of nineties, sold all their fabs and are a design house now. But i think they found their niche.
