Michael Splinter, Mover and Shaker

I know I am not alone when I say that I never tire of speaking with the brilliant minds of our industry. EDN's Movers and Shakers 2007 issue should be hitting your snail mailbox any day now with an interview of Michael Splinter, CEO of Applied Materials and clearly one of those that possesses one of the brilliant minds I mentioned.
Not only is this man a great leader (just take a look at the financials) but he is also one of the nicest men you'll ever meet. I recently chanced upon a woman who used to work for him when he was running one of Intel's fabs in Santa Clara and she said he always remembered her name and asked about her family as he walked through the fab. Talk about well-rounded too.
