Speak of the devil. Just a few days after we blog about the need for more REACH awareness, SEMI (Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International), SESHA (Semiconductor Environmental, Health and Safety Association), ESIA (European Semiconductor Industry Association), and ISMI (International SEMATECH Manufacturing Initiative) announce a Webcast on the environmental regulation.
The 90-minute free Webcast, "Logistics of REACH Pre-Registration," will be run from the newly created ECHA (European Chemicals Agency) headquarters in Helsinki, Finland, on Monday, August 11 at 8am pacific time. SEMI describes the Webcast’s target audience as “semiconductor industry members and suppliers concerned with regulatory compliance for substances produced in, or imported directly or indirectly, into the European Union.”
There is no pre-registration for this Webcast and only the first 150 people will get into the online event. According to SEMI, participants can begin logging in at 7:45am and, for those of us that try to sign in as number 151 and beyond (or those of us still in bed at 7:45am), the Webcast will be recorded and made available for playback. Follow this SEMI link on August 11 to sign into the Webcast.
Speakers include ECHA’s Catherine Cornu, who will discuss who can pre-register (EU legal entities/only reps), what needs to be pre-registered by when, and what data is needed to pre-register; and ECHA’s Andreas Uphoff, who will demonstrate two on-line software tools for pre-registering chemicals, IUCLID5 and REACH-IT.
Fiona Lyons, and Intel Ireland's environment engineer, will moderate, as well as Sanjay Baliga, SEMI senior manager in the environmental health and safety division, and ISMI Consultant Laurie Beu.
If you have questions about REACH pre-registration that you would like the speakers to address, SEMI invites you to forward them to Baliga at sbaliga@semi.org. The industry group said written questions submitted via the Webcast interface during the presentations may also be answered.
