I enjoyed reading everyone's comments on the “You can change the world. Up for it?” blog entry on April 3.
Now I want to pose another question—let's push the politics aside first, please.
Take 2: Electronics industry leaders generally agree that technology needs to be developed that consumes less energy and power. The emerging area of ultra-low power systems (ULP) illustrates the effort that is already happening, and there's a conference taking place in San Jose in early June that's bringing together top executives and technical professionals in the fields of advanced batteries, power management, ultra-low power RF technologies, energy harvesting, networking protocols and related fields to discuss the latest advancements in these industries. I have heard many people say the electronics industry has an important role to play in keeping a lid on energy consumption (and lowering the amount of energy consumed). At a recent roundtable discussion with seven electronics industry CEOs that Ed Sperling of Electronic News moderated as part of our upcoming Movers and Shakers special issue, several of the executives acknowledged there is a crisis (yes, the word “climate” was mentioned) and it is the industry's responsibility to do something about it.What role should the electronics industry play?
What is your company doing to help the effort? Let me hear from you.
