Evaluate your heatsink with Pressurex pressure-sensing film

December 30, 2009

I forget where I saw the write-up for Sensor Products pressure sensitive film, but I wrote them and the asked diligent Arlene Gleicher for a sample. Check out the product page for Pressurex. This is cool stuff, it is two thin films that you face together and then clamp under your part in the heat sink. When you take it apart, the film will show any pressure points or if you have enough pressure to begin with. Oh, now I remember why I had to write her, the article I saw did not have pricing, and EDN, being the greatest technical magazine on the planet (GTMotP) always insists that vendors of parts and such give some kind of pricing. So as well as a sample, Arlene included a pricing sheet. The sheet was pretty cool since it is printed on a peel-off adhesive sheet, pretty clever Sensor Products. Anyway, the film costs about 60 bucks per linear foot, which is a 12 by 10.5 inch size. You get a big price break if you order by the roll, as you would expect.  The sheets come in 7 different pressure ranges so you can be sure to get a good measurements in your application.
