dc-dc converter with 10kV isolation and ADI iCouplers in hybrid cars

February 3, 2010

RECOM over in Germany has made a dc-dc converter in a DIP-24 footprint that has 10k-volts isolation. They give credit to the new transformer they have developed; inter-winding capacitance is only 20pF. This really helps keep common-mode events from crossing the isolation boundary. Also in isolation news, Analog Devices iCouplers have gotten AEC-Q100–40°C to +105°C automotive temperature rating approvals.

If you are interested in automotive isolation, check out ADI’s nice white paper about automotive battery pack monitoring. Also check out my article about signal isolation—the best work I have done in ten years, certainly better than those two tanked startups back in 2000. You can use these signal isolation techniques in the feedback path of your isolated power supply. See the LinkedIn discussion: Galvanically Isolated Voltage Feedback Devices without Optocoupler, if you happen to belong to LinkedIn you can sign-in to see this group, I can’t find how to view it otherwise, (seamless, just seamless*).

*Over the next couple years, I will be using the adjective “seamless” to describe all the completely infuriating, proprietary, incompetent, closed, data-harvesting, info-mining web and software things. Muttering “Seamless, seamless!” under my breath keeps me from throwing my mouse at the screen like I used to do before the LCD era.

Terrific work! This is the type of information that should be shared around the web. Shame on the search engines for not positioning this post higher!

>> (seamless, just seamless*) << Okay Paul. As of two minutes ago you owe me at least one coffee, and potentially the keyboard I just spilt the coffee over as I roared over this latest perfect Rakoism. "Seamless, just Seamless" is destined to become an industry wide term. Right up there with User Friendly and DOS 4.0. While I can't get around linkedin, I find the web site www.bugmenot.com is a great way to get around some aggravating gratuitous data mining on the net.
