Alexander Graham Bell: Patent troll?

A new book tries to make a case that Bell essentially stole his phone idea from Elisha Gray and then patented it before Gray did. I have no real quarrel with Bell, the fellow we remember every time we say dB. I do have a somewhat dimmer opinion of Theodore Vail, the robber baron that bought off all the state legislatures in order to get a state-sanctioned monopoly.
