The ISSCC analog aficionado party, resurrected, this weekend.
Analogical Triangulistos, in conjunction with the Back Office Boffins, brings you the resurrection of the ISSCC (integrated solid state circuits conference) Analog Dinosaur party. Twenty years ago Jim Williams and Derek Bowers used have a party the weekend before ISSCC. Jim had it at his house a couple years and then at a fire station when it got too big. I have decided to resurrect the party. This is not an official ISSCC or EDN event. I just thought it would be great to get a bunch of analog people together. The party is at:
- The Duke of Edinburgh pub, Cupertino California
- Saturday, February 6, 2010, from 5:00PM to midnight.
In order to get in and get the free food, I ask you give me a business card. This is the pub that Derek is part owner of, so it only seems fitting to me that we hold the shindig there. I have emailed a bunch of analog people and the response has been terrific. So far we have confirmed: Bob Dobkin, Jim Williams, Bob Pease, Barrie Gilbert, Barry Harvey, Dave Fullagar, and Bo Lojek, will be bringing Bob Widlar’s papers from his "Russian period". Scads of my pals from National and Linear Tech and Maxim will be coming. Steve Sokolov is going to make it. Derek Bowers and ADI’s Chris Mangelsdorf who may drag along Dave Robertson. Joann Close is coming too. I just got a note from George Erdi; he is coming. A friend that I invited happens to play cards with Jim Solomon, the founder of Cadence, so Jim is coming. Dave Anderson from National has confirmed. I have also asked my honored competitors at other magazines to come, so I am hoping Don Tuite from Electronic Design shows up.
Don’t worry about the party being too crowded, Derek assures me we can get 100 people into his joint and there is a heated patio as well as restaurant next door that can take overflow. Dress warm in case the party spills out onto the patio. I especially would like to see out-of-towners show up since I don’t get to see them as often. Now get this, Barry Harvey mentioned the party to the PR people over at Intersil and they have agreed to kick in 500 bucks for food and hors d’œuvres. So that means that Intersil is now the Platinum Sponsor of the Analog Aficionados party. I plan on at least matching that contribution, and maybe more if a lot of people show up. If your company wants to chip in, let me know and I can put you in contact with Derek.
Disclaimer: This is not an official ISSCC or EDN or Intersil event. If you get drunk and hurt yourself, that is your responsibility, not them or me or Derek or Jim or the Pub’s. If you get too drunk to drive I will gladly pay for a hotel room or arrange a ride for you or have you and your car towed back home.
