24-bit ADC consumes 300uA

October 7, 2010

Maxim Integrated Products has introduced the MAX11210, a single-channel, 24-bit ADC that offers 23.9-bit effective resolution (ENOB) at less than  300microamps of power consumption. The part is well suited for portable instrumentation, 4-20mA loops, portable equipment, temperature sensors, and other precision sensor applications demanding low power consumption. Four GPIO lines allow the MAX11210 to multiplex up to 16 channels. Integrated buffer amplifiers on the analog and reference inputs eliminate external amplifiers and gain stages.

The MAX11210 offers a software-programmable oversampling ratio for output rates up to 120sps with zero latency and up to 480sps in continuous-conversion mode. Simplifying device and system calibration, the ADC automatically self-calibrates for device offset and gain. In addition, the ADC offers user-programmable offset and gain registers for enhanced system-level calibration where needed. Other integrated features include programmable gain from 1 to 16 and 100dB (min) 50Hz or 60Hz rejection.

The MAX11210 is offered in a small 16-pin QSOP package and is fully specified over the -40°C +85°C extended temperature range. Production quantities are available now. Pricing starts at $2.85 (1000-up, FOB USA).
