Update to DAC Scoop: Synopsys acquires Sigma-C

July 27, 2006

Synopsys Inc. officials confirmed to EDN today that the company has acquired microlithography simulator vendor Sigma-C.

Synopsys officials would not give any further details regarding the acquisition because the deal has not closed yet—rather the companies have just recently signed a definitive agreement, which Synopsys and Sigma-C filed with the Federal Cartel Office in Germany.

The acquisition of the Munich-based Sigma-C brings to Synopsys roughly 50 employees and a microlithography simulator. Evidently customers will use Synopsys SiVL full-chip lithography simulator to locate potential OPC trouble spots in their layouts and then use Solid+ to do detailed 3D analysis.

A Synopsys spokesperson at DAC said Sigma-C has not been exhibiting at DAC, as previously reported by EDN, but Sigma-C does have representative at the show.
