BlazeDFM calls press con: Aprio acquisition looming?

February 20, 2007

Judging from BlazeDFM’s urgent call for the press to attend a rushed press conference tomorrow morning, it would appear that John Cooley’s unsubstantiated rumor about BlazeDFM acquiring struggling DFM startup Aprio may be moving into the realm of substantiated. BlazeDFM just issued a request for the press to attend a press conference tomorrow in the AM.

Aprio’s been struggling over the last year with its former CEO Mike Gianfagna laying himself off at one point (good Roman general). Aprio’s current management in recent months have been saying that the company is strong. The merger and acquisition would bulk up BlazeDFM’s tool offering. It will be interesting to see how the financial aspect is handled: whether it is an outright acquisition or a “merger of equals.” Cooley’s original report on the rumor notes that Cadence was also in the bidding, which makes one wonder why Aprio wouldn’t agree to Cadence, which seemingly has much deeper pockets than startup Blaze.
