The low cost FPGA battle between Xilinx, Altera, Lattice and Actel

November 12, 2007

Hi folks, we’ve posted my feature article on the low-cost FPGA market “High noon for FPGAs: Low-cost-versus- high-end showdown”, which I also discussed in a previous blog entry entitled “Is the FPGA industry cannibalizing itself?

You’ll note that the feature article focuses mainly on the business implications of low-cost FPGAs increasing functionality and replacing sockets normally reserved for high-end FPGAs, but the article also includes data points on each vendor’s market focus and offerings and I’ve also included a specification table of the various low-cost FPGA offerings from Actel, Altera, Lattice and Xilinx. I hope you find the article informative as to what options are available to you for your next design project. The FPGA guys are doing a pretty remarkable job adding high end functions to relatively low cost FPGAs.

As a graphic web designer , I'm truely glad to find that someone brought up this topic. Many people out there don't grasp the concept of what all is involved in our field, and I think also we are all too often not appreciated enough or taken for granted. Never the less I'm very glad to see that you may feel the same way I do , thanks so much for your blog!
