Sweet Sling Savings
Following up on my recent-past Sling Media writeup, here’s a heads-up that the company’s current promotion bundles the HD-capable Slingbox PRO and the companion HD Connect Cable for $179.99 (plus shipping), a $100 savings on the normal direct-from-company pricetag for this two-item combo. I don’t know how long the sale price will last, so if you’re interested, you might not want to delay on this deal.
Sling sent me a review kit (it just arrived this morning). I’m going to try tethering it to my spare AmiNET120 STB and, leveraging SureWest’s 50 Mbps upstream bandwidth, upload content to the 1.3 Mbps downstream DSL connection at our weekend home in the mountains. I’ll report back as I make progress (or not) on this particular project front.
p.s…speaking of fine print (although to be clear, I’m not implying any deception in this particular case), before you get too excited, note the following text on the Sling website page: "While the HD Connect Cable does not stream in high-definition, it does allow you to watch your home television’s high-definition programming in standard definition while preserving the picture quality and 16:9 aspect ratio."
