60 GByte PS3s: Disappearing Fast

August 30, 2007

Three-plus weeks back, I told you how to save $150 on the 60 GByte Sony PlayStation 3, which I highly recommend as the player candidate those of you considering taking the Blu-ray plunge (as well as those of you desiring full PS2 backwards-compatibility) should select. Three-plus weeks before that, I informed you that this particular PS3 variant was no longer being manufactured and was closeout-priced. The combination of those two data points has apparently had its desired sales-boosting effect, albeit (probably) as just a temporary uptick; the 60 GByte inventory depletion has transpired much quicker than even Sony anticipated just 1.5 months ago. Units are depleted from Sony’s warehouses and no longer available for purchase through SonyStyle.com (full disclosure: I bought one myself right after publishing my earlier $150-off post); if you still want one, you’ll need to discard your discount dreams and search through Sony’s or other retailers’ brick-and-mortar store shelves. Good luck!
