Memories....Of Memories

May 4, 2007

15 years ago (how time flies), my then-teammates and I at Intel introduced a 1 MByte flash memory chip at the then-awe inspiring price of $30. Yesterday, Creative Labs introduced a 1 GByte flash memory chip at $40….with a portable audio player wrapped around it at no extra charge. Subtract $10 for the other-than-flash stuff, plus the semiconductor supplier markup, and you're left with the following conclusion: 15 years, 210 higher capacity….no extra charge. I love this industry!

Followup: Here's a teardown.
