Snow Sadism: Today's Edition

January 30, 2008

The weather’s partly sunny today; a welcome lull before tomorrow and Saturday’s forecasted storms (although judging from the cloudcap now forming on Mt. Rose across the valley from my abode, ‘tomorrow’ may actually arrive later today). Here’s a visual representation of the ‘120% of normal’ precipitation accumulation estimate in yesterday’s Sierra Sun:

That’s my back deck. The snow shovel is 3 feet, 10 inches tall (and I’m 5 feet, 5 inches tall). Ground level is ~2 feet below the deck. Therein why I’m feeling absolutely no guilt at skipping the gym the past few weeks…

By the way, as follow-up to yesterday’s post, the power was back on within a few hours, in spite of the fact that a high-wind and heavy-snow storm was raging throughout the repair interval. The support representative from the Truckee Donner P.U.D. was even nice enough to call me back and make sure that my electricity was flowing again. Now that’s customer service!
