HDD Prices: A New Low (Which Is A Good Thing!)

November 26, 2007

Less than a month ago, I discussed the pricing and availability trends of various manufacturers’ 1 TByte HDDs, while simultaneously pointing out that their prices hadn’t (yet) dipped to the 20 cent-per-GByte threshold of lower-capacity products. As is usual for this incredibly competitive technology category, I didn’t have to wait long for this observation to get neutered. Pay via PayPal, apply a coupon code (PPAL1126HDD03), and you’ll snag Western Digital’s WD10EACS 1 TByte HDD (3 Gbps SATA, 7200 RPM, 16 MByte cache) for $175.99 at Newegg. With free shipping to boot (pun intended).

That’s less than 18 cents per GByte, folks (tax not included). Friggin’ amazing.
