Last One Out, Turn Off The Lights

January 12, 2006

As followup to last Saturday's exultation on digital imaging's rapid pace of improvement, yesterday brought news that Nikon is end-of-life'ing the vast majority of its silver halide-centric 35mm product line. I've kept my Pentax 67 medium format kit intact (and bought a bunch of film for it, which I keep in the freezer, from a local photographer who converted to digital). However, I sold all but one (the rugged K1000, whose shutter still operates if the batteries fail) 35mm body when I picked up my *istD over two years ago (how time flies!). For more background on digital imaging's evolution, see EDN's image sensor articles from October 1997December 2000 and September 2004.
